‘Birds of Prey’ gets new title in select theaters

Birds of Prey (and the Emancipation of a Harley Quinn) gets a new title in some theaters after the film’s disastrous opening weekend.

On Monday, the film had won only just over $ 35 million at the box office, which makes it one of the worst opening weekends for a DC movie.

Part of this may have been due to the movie’s R rating, which meant fewer families going to the cinema. This was probably due in large part to the bad marketing the film also received.

Another reason? The title itself, Birds of prey, did not do enough to showcase the central protagonist of the film: Harley Quinn.

It looks like Warner Bros. tries to correct this wrong. Some cinemas changed the title of the film to Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey.

ComicBook.com noticed these changes on booking sites and mobile apps. ScreenRant reports that the change is at the behest of Warner Bros. Sure enough, if you head to a channel like AMC’s website, you’ll find the change online.

This change has yet to happen in all theaters (my local theater still displays the original title) or ticketing sites such as Fandango. It is likely that we will see more and more changes before next weekend.

Warner Bros. Probably should have opened with this new title, with a focus on the more familiar Harley Quinn, rather than the lesser-known Birds of Prey (she’s not even a member of that superhero team). It probably wouldn’t have been a bad idea to have at least one Joker cameo in the movie just for WB to use in marketing. Too late for that now.

We’ll see if a title change can help give Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey longer legs. The film cost $ 82 million to make, so it’s unlikely to be a total flop.
