LEAP Accepts Applications for $ 11 Million Ingham County Small Business Grants Program

The Ingham County Sunrise Small Business Grants Program is accepting applications until July 30 for the American Rescue Plan grants. The Lansing Economic Area Partnership was selected to administer the program on behalf of Ingham County.

Established by Ingham County in April using $ 11 million from the first installment of County ARP funds, will provide working capital grants to eligible small businesses and nonprofits in County of Ingham.

The grant application is now open and can be viewed on LEAP website as well as additional information to help eligible businesses and nonprofits create competitive applications.

“There is no question that small businesses are the backbone of our communities and our economy in Ingham County,” said Bryan Crenshaw, chair of the Ingham County Commissioners Council. “As we emerge from more than a year of crisis, this support is essential to the recovery and sustainability of our businesses and the communities they support. “

Qualifying small businesses and nonprofits include those with 100 or fewer employees in total and workers at a physical site in Ingham County, have fewer than 250 employees globally, with at least 50 percent of their workforce in Michigan. Full eligibility conditions are available here.

The application process, according to LEAP, was intentionally and collaboratively designed to address inequalities in the economic impact of COVID-19 and the lack of subsequent access to initial relief efforts for under-represented communities, including Indigenous people, people of color, women, veterans, people with disabilities and LGBTQ + people. To ensure these efforts are effective, LEAP contracted with a large group of local diversity, equity and inclusion partners to help design the applications and the review process.

The Ingham County Sunrise Grants Program will provide grants to small businesses and non-profit organizations in Ingham County under the following business categories:

  • Catering establishments
  • Tourism and hotel service providers
  • Retail trade, goods and services
  • Child care, early childhood education and activity providers
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Business incubators and support organizations for entrepreneurs
