A barber shop, cleaning company and gift basket maker are set to open in Itasca.

The village council this week approved the three new businesses, which will create 87 jobs.

Hair Goddess Salon and Boutique will open in a multi-unit building at 213 North Catalpa Ave. The company will sell earrings, handbags and various hair accessories.

Owner Connie Blankenship, a lifelong Itasca resident, is the sole employee.

“I’ve been in the industry for a long time and know exactly what I’m doing,” Blankenship said.

“I grew up in the business and have a great reputation,” she said. “You can’t be lazy. You have to stay organized and engaged.”

Marketplace Brands, which manufactures and distributes gift baskets, will move from Elk Grove Village to Itasca. The business will occupy approximately 84,000 square feet at 1055 West Devon Ave. It will have a total of 80 employees.
