Micro Extraordinary: Capturing extraordinary creators and entrepreneurs at their micro stage.

Welcome to Micro Extraordinary, where we feature incredible entrepreneurs. We’ve taken a break to revamp this regular feature and brainstorm some exciting new ways to introduce you to these great entrepreneurs in the pages of The Hampton County Warden.

For our first feature film since the hiatus, we interviewed a young and talented entrepreneur, Hunter Elizabeth Cook, a local cosmetologist from Cummings, SC.

Cook graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 2016. During high school, she discovered that her interest in cosmetology was growing and chose it as a career path.

“I’ve always loved doing people’s hair since I was little. My family pushed and inspired me because they noticed my talent, ”Cook said.

Cook attended the Cosmetic Arts Institute in Walterboro, SC. She graduated in July 2018.

“I loved going to class every day, although getting up early for class wasn’t always fun. I loved meeting the people who came every week for a hairstyle. Working with real clients gave me the experience I needed. The best part of the process was being chosen to enter a hairstyling competition in Myrtle Beach SC. It was very difficult, but I made it through the competition, ”said Cook.

After graduation, she then began working with Southern Roots Salon here on Lee Avenue in downtown Hampton under the direction of owner Anna Jarrell.

The skillful work of cosmetologist Hunter Cook.

“I started working with Southern Roots in February. My motivation comes from my clients. I like my clients to feel beautiful and confident. Their reaction to their new look always encourages me to do more, ”Cook said.

Cook certainly won’t stop there. She looks forward to increasing her clientele, advancing her talent and eventually becoming a salon owner.

“I love working with people, especially people from my hometown. I am proud of Hampton County. It’s a special place to live and grow a business, ”Cook said.

Cook’s advice to anyone interested in pursuing a career in cosmetology would be to visit salons in your area and speak with people in the industry.

“I followed Ms. Janet Deloach to Country Cutters. It helped me in my decision to pursue a career in cosmetology. You can also check out cosmetology schools online, ”Cooks said.

If you want to book this unusual stylist, you can join her on Facebook (Hunter Cook). You can also message Southern Roots to ask for Cook. She is always available and looks forward to serving everyone.

Remember, your business may be small, but it can still be amazing!
