A MOTHER has quit her job as a nanny to open a new pottery painting studio in Hurstbourne Tarrant.

Debbie Bench officially opened her new boutique at Dene Garage on Saturday, after leaving the world of childcare behind at the start of the pandemic.

The store’s name, Tink and Brellie Pottery Painting, is inspired by Debbie’s nicknames for her two now adult children, Chloe and Gabrielle, who were on hand to officially cut the ribbon on Saturday morning.

Reflecting on how difficult the past eighteen months have been for small businesses, Debbie said, “I can’t wait. This is something fun and I hope it will help families and adults to restart certain activities in a safe environment.

“It’s just about spending time doing something.

“I found that people, especially with young children, said they wanted a destination so that they could spend time away from home.”

The studio, located in a converted former workshop and next to a hair salon and tea room, caters for birthdays, bachelorette parties or any other occasion, or for people who just want to come. making pottery.

Explaining why she decided to quit child care after a total of two decades in the education industry, Debbie told The Advertiser, “It wasn’t for me. I found it quite insulating.

“I really am a sociable person.”

Meanwhile, her husband Steve noted, “This aligns with business ethics.”

For the past six months, St Mary Bourne’s mother of two delivered boxes of pottery to people for painting at home, before picking them up to set them on fire and return them.

But it was when she went to another pottery studio with Chloe and Gabrielle that she found the inspiration and the spark to start her own business.

“I was in another pottery studio with my two daughters because we love to paint on pottery.

“I thought ‘I can do this’ and I came home and said ‘I have it’.”

But after a long search for the perfect space, Steve says it’s been an eventful four weeks since they got their hands on their new store.

“Considering the past 18 months, she wanted to bring some wellness back into people’s lives,” he said. “It’s a market that crosses all ages.
