Salon owner has high hopes for the future as restrictions easing continues

A salon owner has hope for the future, with the announcement of restrictions being lifted entirely by August.

Louise Bradshaw, of Wishaw, opened her new salon at Motherwell Business Center just months before the first lockdown and struggled during the pandemic.

However, Louise and the rest of the Fabu Lou’s Beauty team opened after the restrictions were eased in April and are now desperate for zeroing and possibly having all restrictions lifted.

Louise said: “When we first reopened, we noticed that there hadn’t been a big adoption. I think a lot of people were still worried.

“Now we are stuck. People feel much safer with the vaccine.

“Our team does nails, eyebrows and eyelashes, makeup, hairstyles, hair extensions and aesthetics.

“Some of them were newly qualified in 2019, but spent a year doing nothing with their qualifications.

“We are entering the summer months which should be our busiest time, so we hope it will be a big boost for all of us if things continue in the right direction.”

Lanarkshire will remain at level two of Scotland’s coronavirus restrictions for three more weeks – but the Prime Minister has set indicative dates to ease measures across the country.

All parts of Scotland are expected to level zero from July 19, following the next scheduled review; and legal restrictions could be removed entirely from August 9, subject to continued vaccine deployment and infection rates in the coming weeks.

Nicola Sturgeon made the announcement to Holyrood, saying that while “no part of the country will change the level of Covid next week” the changes are expected to take effect next month with everyone over 18 who will have received a first dose vaccination by July 18 second dose by September 12.

Louise added: “I’m always worried that there is another lockdown, but I try to be as positive as possible.

“I lost my stepfather to Covid and I was also sick of it and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

“Now, with the procedures in place at the salon, I feel very safe, a lot safer than when I go to the supermarket for example.

“If we can get back to normalcy by August, I hope we can all expect something a little brighter.”
