STATEN ISLAND, NY – This is a beauty lover’s paradise – where you can pamper yourself from head to toe in one place.

Sola Salons – which opened in Port Richmond in 2019 with 29 studios and brimming with a variety of beauty professionals, from hairstylists to estheticians – opened its second location on Staten Island earlier this month at 2935 Veterans Rd. West, Charleston, said Tina Marcopoulos, operations manager for NJ-based D&M Salon Suites. The company is the franchise owner of two sites on Staten Island, as well as several in New Jersey.

The new 7,300-square-foot space in the South Shore Commons shopping center includes 32 studios, of which seven – ranging from 100 to over 200 square feet – are still available for rent, she said.

“There seems to be a huge demand on the South Shore,” she said. “Customers didn’t want to travel, which is why some business owners moved to the new location. In addition, it gives a new opportunity to our stylists on the South Shore.

OFFERED SERVICES

Services offered at the new location include: hair cutting and coloring; facial and skin care, such as microblading; Botox and fillers; permanent makeup; laser hair removal and eyebrow hair removal.

It’s like a mall for beauty companies.

The wide range of beauty professionals housed in Sola salons are all independent operators. The parent organization boasts of providing “move-in studios” that allow beauty professionals to start their own businesses.

Marcopoulos said the concept is a great opportunity for people, especially women, to own their own business without too much overhead.

“There is so much need to open your own place. And at Sola, you have a very low start-up cost and a very low risk. You can become profitable immediately. And you don’t give a percentage of your profits to a salon owner. With us you keep everything you earn and you control your schedule, ”she said. “It really is your own space and environment. “

NO RENT CHARGED DURING THE PANDEMIC

During the coronavirus (COVID-19) tenures that forced salon businesses to close for three months, D&M Salon Suites did not charge rent to its studio owners.

“We knew these businesses could not have survived,” Marcopoulos said of falling rents at the height of the pandemic. “For the most part, almost all of our business owners have come back; everyone opened up and everyone started to thrive again.

CREATE A COMMUNITY

Although each beauty business is individually owned and operated, Marcopoulos has touted the camaraderie among professionals at Sola salons.

“We have found that each of our locations has become a community because they are not competing for their customers, they are not competing with their next door neighbor. So the element of competition is largely removed, and it’s great to see people working together and sharing information, ”she said.

Marcopoulos noted that plans are underway to open a third Sola salon in Eltingville in the future.

Businesses formerly hosted at Post Richmond Sola lounges that have moved to the new South Shore location include:

  • Eyebrows and Beauty by Tara Leigh
  • Studio A by Alex
  • A touch of your Studio
  • Lauren Cicero Hair Studio
  • Chic Aesthetic
  • Angel Sole Studio

Other new beauty businesses at the new location include:

  • Allison Hair Studio
  • Vintage Sol Studio
  • Artistic aura
  • Harmony & Me
  • Bar Botox House of (ness)
  • Color Dreams Studio
  • Vintage Sol Studio
  • Glowing skin and laser spa
  • Art & Soul Hair Studio

And more businesses will open soon, Marcopoulos said.
