Mayor Mike Spano joined Tai and Lillian for their celebration

Congratulations to Tai Nail & Hair Salon for celebrating its 10th anniversary on May 19th. The salon, located at 17 Lockwood Avenue, is owned by mother Lillian (Lily) Reyes and daughter Taisha (Tai) Martinez. Lilly is originally from the Dominican Republic and Tai was born in the Bronx. Both are proud Latinas.

“Over the past 10 years a lot has happened and we have been able to stay open to provide our customers with the same or better service. When the pandemic hit us, it was difficult because we had to close for four months. But when we reopened, we were busy. We had clients from all over coming here because their salons were still closed, and we were prepared for that. We have remodeled the salon to meet the new reopening requirements while keeping in mind that we need to protect ourselves, our employees and our customers. It wasn’t easy sometimes, but we weren’t going to give up so easily, we are strong Latin women,” Tai said.

“My mother has 20 years of hairdressing experience and opened two salons in Yonkers and the first in Mt. Vernon when I was only 18. She really understands how important customer service is and the things that school didn’t teach me what my mom taught I’m so grateful to her and couldn’t ask for a better person to show me I graduated from Westchester Community College with Business Administration Associate and graduated from SUNY Empire State College with a bachelor’s degree in commerce, management and economics.

“Five years ago I decided to go back to my mum’s (salon) business to help run it and I was a little lost to be honest, but I knew that working for someone maybe else wasn’t what I wanted after all I remembered how I didn’t like being in the living room because all I saw was my mom had to do , and I didn’t want that for myself, so I left the company, finished my bachelor’s degree, traveled the world and LIVED like I never had before. most popular in Westchester County because I specialize in ingrown pedicures and am known as the queen of pedicures An ingrown pedicure focuses on removing the extra cuticle around the nails or removing a ingrown nail.

“I have clients from all over. Our salon is not popular because of me but because of the service we provide. Every morning we all have our famous Dominican coffee some clients meet around it, we are bilingual in Spanish and English, do really good pedicures and nail service, and my mom is amazing with the hair that some of her clients have been with her for 15 years. But above all, customers leave happy and feel like family. Our customers know that we are clean, collectible, understanding and honest Latinas who appreciate them,” Tai said.
