It’s no lie that we love yacht designer Kurt Strand. Previously, we brought you his awesome yacht from Florida that could sail without wind.
Now the ambitious designer is back with another superyacht design that is sure to blow your mind. New The 528ft (161m) beauty is aptly named after Norway as it was inspired by the Viking Age longships.
Strand decided to emulate the powerful square sails of that era and create a modern version of them. The end result is that Norway is equipped with “space age technology” that will allow it to travel to all corners of the world without producing any emissions.
Sails actually capture energy as they move and then store it in a battery bank on board. This energy can then be converted into hydrogen. Even without wind or sun, Norway will move forward, powered by three multi-fuel engines that can run on diesel, liquefied natural gas or hydrogen.
Under ideal weather conditions, the superyacht will produce more clean energy than it swallows, putting that energy aside for tough weather days.
The ship is of course large, as are all superyachts. It can accommodate up to 24 people in 12 luxurious suites, as well as 40 crew members. It’s even equipped with a beach club, fitness center, spa, swimming pool, supercar garage, and cinema.
Do you not feel well on board? Don’t worry, Norway also has a hospital. Yes, you read that right a mini-hospital.
In the center of the ship is a circular two-story lobby and bar that allows visitors to marvel at the views from the ship. Finally, for smooth sailing, the Norway is equipped with a unique sail handling system for precise maneuvers as well as two side-by-side retractable keels with stabilizers. This allows the vessel to navigate deep or shallow water with smooth navigation.
