VIDEO UFC 249 HIGHLIGHTS / RESULTS

  • Justin Gaethje, the underdog, walks in and dismantles Tony Ferguson, defeating him by TKO to win the interim lightweight belt. He throws the belt in the post-fight interview and says he wants the real thing. He wants to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov and officially win the lightweight crown.
  • Henry Cejudo retains his championship belt in an exciting way, stunning Dominick Cruz in the dying seconds of the second round with a knee to the face in this bantamweight title fight.
  • Francis Ngannou absolutely destroyed Jair Rozenstruik in the span of a minute with a knockout blow in an extremely fast heavyweight fight. Ngannou now has 9 pro knockouts, which makes him one of the most dangerous punchers in the fighting game.
  • In what was the bloodiest fight of the night, Calvin Kattar crushed Jeremy Stephens with a right elbow in the face this resulted in a knockdown and then an eventual stoppage for Kattar TKO’s victory in this featherweight fight.
  • Greg Hardy emerged victorious from this one – by far the most boring contest of the day – defeating Yorgan De Castro by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) in their heavyweight bout. Castro was sailing in the first round and did a lot of damage to Hardy’s leg but then appeared to injure his foot from a leg kick and claimed after the fight that he may have broken Something.

PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF THE MAP

  • FINAL: Anthony Pettis was clearly a favorite in this fight and while Cowboy Cerrone came in and put on a good show, it just wasn’t enough to be a threat. Pettis defeated Donald Cerrone by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) in their welterweight showdown.
  • FINAL: Despite being the favorite, Fabricio Werdum just didn’t bring his best gear today. Oleksiy Oliynyk defeated Fabricio Werdum by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28), but it didn’t even seem so close. Oliynyk seemed in control throughout this heavyweight fight.
  • FINAL: Carla Esparza shocks the world and dominates Michelle Waterson with a split decision (30-27, 27-30, 29-28) in their women’s strawweight duel.
  • FINAL: Vicente Luque destroys Niko Price in their welterweight fight. Luque officially beat Niko Price by TKO (doctor save) at 3:37 of Round 3. Luque unleashed a crushing left hook in Price’s eye which hit him flat on the canvas. Price stood up, but his eye was so swollen that the fight had to be stopped by the official.

FIRST PRELIMINARY RESULTS

  • FINAL: Bryce Mitchell defeats Charles Rosa by unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-24) in this featherweight fight and it wasn’t much of a contest.
  • FINAL: The judges give the split decision to Ryan Spann (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) despite a furious finish from Sam Alvey. Spann (-490) looked good at the start over underdog Sam Alvey (+320) in this light heavyweight bout. Spann lands a nice knee just before the end of the first round. Alvey recovers and gets some nice hard knocks in round 2 but Spann doesn’t seem fazed. In the third round, Alvey roared back, knocked out Spann with a hard blow, and almost had him with a choke hold standing against the cage. At the end of the round, Alvey connected hard with a punch to the chin and staggered Spann, but the bell rings and we’ll go to the judges.
