GREAT FALLS – Staff at The Man Shop in Great Falls clean up after a van crashed through its large front window on Friday, March 11, 2022.

It happened around 1:20 a.m. at the store, located at 800 10th Avenue South. The store was closed at the time, so there was no one inside and no injuries.

“It’s the closest station to the wall,” manager Sarah Custer explained as she examined the twisted remains of one of the lounge stations inside the store on Friday.

Custer had one word to describe his reaction to the phone call telling him about the damage caused by a truck crashing into the business. “Panic. My stylist called me,” Custer said.

Custer then quickly made his way to the living room.

“It was a bit scary. It was a moment of panic but it was also a moment of relief because none of my daughters were here,” she said when asked what that had crossed her mind when she arrived and saw the destruction.

Custer said that after the truck crashed, the driver backed up on 10th Avenue South, got out of the truck, and drove away, leaving the truck in the middle of the road.

One person who saw what happened, she said, called the police and even helped set up the business.

“He destroyed these windows. His truck went through here and landed in this back wall,” Custer said, driving through the business and explaining the damage.

Outside, plywood was installed to cover the hole the truck punched in the back wall when it crashed.

“It’s very devastating. I’ve had so many text messages from my daughters saying they’re worried about where they’re going to get their next paycheck,” Custer said.

She said insurance would help and a damage assessment is scheduled for Wednesday with the owner.

By Saturday afternoon, police had contacted a suspect, but no arrests or charges have been made at this stage.
