Beauty brand Bath Bomb Lush has apologized to the trans community after admitting to donating funds to women’s rights groups who have expressed anti-trans views.

Woman’s Place UK (WPUK) announced via its website that it had received a grant of £ 3,000 from Lush’s Charity Pots to host a conference on violence against women.

However, the bulk of WPUK’s efforts are focused on anti-trans measures, with calls for more “spaces for women” and a review of the impact proposed by changes to the Human Recognition Act. gender, which allows people with gender dysphoria to legally change their gender. .

In a Nov. 30 statement regarding donations made by the group’s Charity Pots Grants, Lush said, “To clarify our position, we do not believe that the rights of transgender people pose a threat to the rights of women.

“Our conviction is that a decent society must be able to structure itself to give rights and protection to all those who need them.”

Lush also reportedly received backlash for a 2017 fundraising request from another militant group FiLiA, “which preceded our awareness of the toxicity of discussions around this issue,” the beauty company added.

FiLiA organizes an annual conference to project women’s rights and seeks that all women are “free from patriarchy”.

In a follow-up statement on Dec. 1, Lush wrote, “To trans people and their allies, we apologize for some past mistakes in our choice of donation recipients.

“The declaration of November 30 […] was in response to social media posts asking if it was true that we had donated to two named groups – a question we wanted to give a full and clear answer to.

“However, for those of you who have joined this conversation from different places and have wondered if Lush deliberately funded a campaign against trans rights, we want to assure you that this would never be our intention and we sincerely agree. sorry that some of our funding was used to do this.

The group went on to say that the donations made went to work “which we would not be proud to support.”

Lush has since been committed to improving its donation process.
